Trip to Karnak and Luxor Temples by motor boat

1 Day

Overview

This is one of the most fabulous day tours you can have in Luxor.

Karnak Temple

Karnak Temple is the center of worship of the god Amun, the king of gods in ancient Egypt, which is why it is the largest and most amazing of ancient Egyptian temples. It was first constructed as early as the ruling period of the Middle Kingdom of the Pharaohs; however the construction continued for thousands of years thereafter, with each king adding his own unique contribution to Karnak. Highlights of the complex include the hypostyle hall of Ramses II, the pylons, and the Avenue of Sphinxes.

(Optional) Luxor Museum

Optional Luxor Museum ocated in the Egyptian city of Luxor (formerly Thebes). It stands on the corniche, overlooking the west bank of the River Nile, in the central part of the city. Inaugurated in 1975, the museum is housed in a small, purpose-built building. The range of artefacts on display is far more restricted than the country’s main collections in the Museum of Antiquities in Cairo; this was, however, deliberate, since the museum prides itself on the quality of the pieces it shows, the uncluttered way in which they are displayed, and the clear multilingual labelling used.

Luxor Temple

Established around 1400 BC, the temple was built to witness the crowning of the kings of ancient Egypt. This was also where the Opt Festival used to take place, which may be why it was connected with Karnak Temple by the Avenue of Sphinxes. On the façade of the temple are two huge statues of Ramses II. Inside the temple, there are various chapels dating back to different periods of ancient Egyptian history. This is the only temple that has been a temple, a church, and a mosque.
